How to become holy?

The canonization of saints usually occurs after the death of a person. For this, a special Diocesan Commission examines the person’s livelihoods and decides whether he is worthy of canonization. It is worth noting that a person in life never thinks about how to become holy, and his assignment usually occurs on the basis of his life.

Until the seventeenth century, saints were ranked on the basis of three obligatory conditions:

  • Immaculate faith;
  • Following all the commandments and accomplishing all the virtues, in spite of persecution and persecution;
  • The manifestation of miraculous signs and healings.

An important indicator of holiness was a pop-up coffin with incorruptible relics.

Today it is no longer mandatory conditions. For example, Holy Mother Teresa is canonized by Catholic saints for a virtuous way of life and a great ascetic work in helping those in need. But Princess Olga was canonized long before these demands. According to the legend, only righteous Christians can see the coffin with the incorruptible relics of the princess.

Conditions for which canonized saints

  • The faith of the Church in the holiness of glorified ascetics who preached the doctrine of God and the preaching of the gospel;
  • Martyrdom of death for Christ or the faith of Christ;
  • Miraculous healings or appearances through the prayers of the saint or from his relics;
  • Great services to the Church or the people of God;
  • The virtuous life and works of God;
  • Great veneration of the saint during his lifetime;

The canonization of the royal family caused a lot of controversy, because their death can in no way be called a martyr's death for the faith, but the Diocesan Commission decided that the morality and patience that the royal family showed during the period of imprisonment is worthy to be counted among the holy martyrs.

Usually, a person chooses for himself a patron saint by the date of his birth or baptism, but you can also pray to other saints in their needs. For example, St. Panteleimon is prayed in healing from ailments, and St. Barbara is prayed for help in family needs.
