How to build a veranda?

The porch at the house is a decorative extension that will not only complement and diversify the overall style and appearance of the house, but also help to expand the functional space of the room. For the construction of a veranda, you can turn to qualified specialists, and you can build a veranda with your own hands. It is not at all difficult to do.

Traditionally, there are two types of extensions:

  • Open verandas
  • Closed verandas

On open verandas, the roof is supported by beams and the upper half of the walls is missing. The walls of the enclosed veranda are solid, usually they have windows, the roof rests directly on the walls.

Preliminary preparation

To build a porch to the house, you need to make a construction plan. It should be remembered that the veranda must fully comply with the style and design of the main building.

Veranda size

The optimal extension length is 4-7 meters, width - 3.5 - 4.5 meters. It is necessary to take into account the individual characteristics of the main building and choose a veranda that will look harmonious in the end.

Stages of construction

The most suitable option for the construction of their own hands is a closed wooden frame porch. This type of construction requires minimal investment and construction skills.

First you need to remove the top layer of soil, make the markup according to the drawing. Then you can start building the foundation. To do this, it is necessary along the perimeter of the marking, necessarily in the corners, to dig holes with a depth of 1 meter for the posts. Then arrange a pillow of gravel and sand at the bottom of the finished pits. Next, make waterproofing with bitumen and make a concrete base with a thickness of 15 cm. Next, build columns of brick. To calculate the height of the pillars, it is necessary to take into account that the roof of the veranda must fit under the roof of the building, and the floor of the veranda must be 30 cm lower than the floor of the main room.

For a budget version of the framework, logs with a diameter of 12 cm or 10 by 10 cm bars will fit. First you need to make the bottom double strapping using logs, install the uprights and fix them with metal brackets and nails. In the upper part, equip the second trim and install the rafters, the upper ends of which should be connected to the beam, which is located under the roof slope.

In order for the frame to withstand the weight of the walls and roofs, it is necessary to use light materials for decoration - clapboard or boards. Preferably the horizontal position of the elements of the walls. In this case, the lining should be secured close together, and the boards - overlapped.

It is also necessary to take care of the annex thermal insulation. To do this, use a special material in the form of rolls or plates. Interior finishing can be done using drywall or chipboard. The decoration and the final version of the decor depends on how the veranda will be used in the future.

There are several options for the roof configuration of the extension, but the most popular option is a lean-to type of roof. In this case, the rafters are located at an angle, the upper ends of which are fixed under the slope, and the lower ones rest on the walls.

For the roof equipment, you can use a variety of materials: soft tile, metal tile or roofing felt: the main thing is that the texture and color match the style of the main building.

To cover the roof, you must attach the boards to the rafters so that you get a dense flooring. Then overlap roll cover fabric and secure. For additional fixation it is necessary to use slats, which should be located at the same distance. The bottom edge of the cover should be bent and secured.

One of the best materials for laying the floor is a finished board, the optimum thickness of which is about 30 mm. Boards should be laid on logs using heat insulating material for the interlayer. It is recommended to treat the upper surface of the floor with protective agents against moisture, and then - to paint or varnish.

Usually for the glazing of the veranda used prefabricated windows. Their size will depend on the initial design and the drawing of the veranda. Depending on the desired degree of illumination of the building, you can use standard windows or windows the size of the whole wall. It should be borne in mind that sliding windows are most convenient, as they allow you to easily turn a closed veranda into the open.

The veranda is an excellent addition to the house, it can be used as a summer kitchen, an entrance hall, and can be a great meeting place for guests or a pleasant summer breakfast for the whole family.
