Tibetan Mastiff is one of the oldest dog breeds, and its homeland is Tibet. Due to the low availability of the region, the breed is preserved almost in its original form and is distinguished by the purity of blood, because it was rarely exported from the country and did not mix with others. The animals are characterized by amazing endurance, unsurpassed strength, the ability to easily tolerate both heat and cold.

The ancestors of the Tibetan mastiffs are the famous Tibetan mastiffs, from which the breed inherited impressive growth and a long life expectancy - up to sixteen years on average, which is not surprising, considering the predisposition to longevity of all residents of the "enlightened" region.

Traveling beyond the Himalayas for the breed began in the thirteenth century, due to the emergence of trade routes through Tibet. These giant dogs have become excellent watchmen and companions for merchants. Then they were brought to Mongolia, Central Asia and Mesopotamia, where later they came to the Greeks and settled in the Mediterranean.

The Romans appreciated their excellent fighting qualities, and the legionaries for their resilience and loyalty in long campaigns. Mastiffs were bestowed on crowned persons, relating to royal breeds. Today, Tibetan mastiffs are rarely found in Europe, the USA and Russia.

Mastiffs are dogs with a powerful heavy body and a slightly flattened good-natured muzzle. The animal matures slowly, depending on gender, bitches by the age of three, and males by the age of four. The description of the Tibetan mastiff is as follows:

Feeding the animal

The food of the Tibetan mastiff should be regime and not excessive, although in accordance with its impressive size, it seems that huge portions lead to overfeeding. Puppies aged from one and a half months to three, feed up to six times a day with lightly boiled beef, dairy products in the form of cottage cheese or kefir, steamed vegetables, preferably pureed with a spoon of vegetable oil.

Canine experts recommend feeding the dog with raw, scalded boiling water and sliced ​​meat:

  • a monthly puppy can eat no more than one hundred and fifty grams a day;
  • a four month old puppy from three hundred grams to half a kilogram of meat.

Dairy products - cottage cheese and kefir in the diet of an adult dog are preserved, but are offered much less frequently.

It is not recommended to mix feed from different manufacturers, and if you enter into the diet of dry food, then gradually. First, it is added to the main food, watching the reaction of the pet and its taste preferences.

The place is settled closer to the owner, but because of the size of the Tibetan mastiff it is usually a spacious and dry booth in the yard, where the pet will feel protected.
