What is insanity?

We used to call insanity inability to adequate judgment or delusions, whereas in fact this word describes a disease that affects the brain and is accompanied by serious consequences.

In this article we will tell you what insanity is, what are its causes and symptoms.

Basic definition

In a literal translation from the Greek marasmus means "extinction" and "exhaustion." This is due to the fact that this phenomenon is characterized by atrophy of the cerebral cortex, which leads almost to an absolute stop of mental activity. The latter is fraught with a general depletion of the body.

There are two main types of marasmus - children and senile. The first type is characterized as a form of protein-energy deficiency, peculiar in particular to newborns. The second type is the so-called Alzheimer's disease, inherent in older people.

Causes, Symptoms and Treatment

In children, marasmus is most often caused by malnutrition, parasitic or bacterial infections,a metabolic disorder or a serious disease of the lungs, cardiovascular system or kidneys. At the same time, the child looks emaciated and apathetic. His thermoregulation is disturbed. Treat this pathology, depending on the causes. Usually regulate the amount of fluid consumed and enrich the diet.

In adults, cancer, paralytic conditions, genetic predisposition and long-term fevers are common causes of marasmus. Symptoms are similar to children's insanity, to which are added a decrease in intellectual abilities and a decrease in memory up to absolute dementia. Psycho-social therapy, special diets and vitamin therapy are used to treat senile insanity.
